Our Story
Oregon Natural Fiber Mill (OnFM) is a women-owned, family-run manufacturing hub where heritage craft meets future-forward design and innovation.
In 2024, Britt Howard, owner of Portland Garment Factory, acquired and revitalized the 40-year legacy of one of the Northwest’s premier natural fiber mills. Rebranding it as Oregon Natural Fiber Mill, Howard set out to honor its deep roots while rewriting the playbook for interior soft goods manufacturing.
Today, OnFM is disrupting the industry—offering ethical, zero-waste production practices and full in-house capabilities that range from milling raw wool and cotton to producing premium bedding, custom upholstery, and bespoke soft furnishings.
OnFM is more than a mill - it’s a design partner for brands, retailers, interior designers, and dreamers who believe sustainability, exceptional craftsmanship, and creativity should be built into every stitch. From springless mattresses and wool comforters to custom upholstery and our in-house designed line, “Puffy Stuff”™, everything we make is touched by skilled hands, crafted in Portland for maximum coziness, and designed for inspired spaces where people rest, gather, and dream.
How it all started...
Oregon Natural Fiber Mill’s roots trace back to 1981 when 17 year old Terri Treat began handcrafting futons from cotton in a small farmhouse in Portland, OR.
Terri’s natural bedding business quickly grew and she eventually launched the retail store Cotton Cloud Futons on East Burnside where she made and sold her products. In 2008, Terri acquired a fiber mill and mattress factory establishing Natural Felt LLC and transforming Cotton Cloud into a vertically integrated manufacturing company.
